Though GIFT is similar to IVF procedure, the egg and sperms are transferred to the fallopian tubes instead of the uterus and the fertilization takes place in the fallopian tubes, not in the lab. Sometimes GIFT associates surgery to transfer the egg & sperm into the tubes. In ZIFT the fertilization takes place in the laboratory and as GIFT the fertilized egg is transferred into the fallopian tubes by a laparoscopic surgical procedure.
